And I loved it! I actually had no idea what it was about and was delightfully surprised! I found out afterwards that it’s based on a book called “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” which is a historical fiction about what happened to Georges Melies after his film career fizzled out. While fanciful, many little details were actually pretty accurate. I studied some of his films in school and I’m kind of shocked when people don’t recognize his work (especially “A Trip to the Moon” which is his most famous). But then I remind myself that not everyone is an early film nerd… Anyhow, I was thrilled by this movie! They even made a tiny nod to Winsor McCay at the end. (Did anyone else catch it?)
However, I pretty much wanted to murder everyone in the theatre. Not only were the kids talking, so were the adults! There were so many people talking that there was a constant murmur throughout the whole film. I did tell a few people near me to be quiet, but since nearly everyone was talking it didn’t help. What happened to theatre etiquette? REALLY?
